Pineal Organ

  • It is situated near the pituitary. Despite being a photoreceptor organ, the pineal organ shows an endocrine nature of doubtful function.
  • Removal of pineal from Lebistes species causes reduced growth rate, and anomalies in the skeleton, pituitary, thyroid, and corpuscles of Stannius.
  • It has been reported that the thyroid and pituitary glands influence the secretion of pineal.
