About Lesson
Chromatographic paper
- For chromatographic analysis, three properties of the paper are important.
a) Rate of the flow of the mobile phase:
- Preference is given to slower paper.
b) Capacity of the paper and its mechanical strength:
- Ability to soak up a larger amount of solvent i.e. with greater thickness and fiber density.
c) Presence of trace impurities:
- May cause an affect on the detection or bind the substance chromatographed.
