Advantages of DSR

  • Reduce cost of production.
  • Reduce the cost of tillage in the following order.

i.e. ZT-DSR > CT-dry > DSR > wet DSR > Transplanted rice.

  • Avoidance of problems and cost of nursery bed preparation, seedling raising, uprooting, transporting, and transplanting.
  • Crops can be harvested 7-10 days earlier.
  • Increase input use efficiency, fertilizer, irrigation water, etc.
  • Reduce women’s drudgery.
  • Address the problem of labor shortage.

 

 

Limitations / Disadvantages of DSR

  • Problems in crop stand establishment due to weather stress (drought and flooding ), and damage caused by pests like rats, and birds.
  • Weed problem is higher than in transplanted rice.
  • Poor availability of technicians and machines for ZT-DSR.
