Root system : Fibrous root system

Shoot system : Stem/ culm , leaf , Spikelet , spikeless head , grain.

Culm :

  • Culm are compressed and green in color.
  • Internode are hollow or solid.
  • Nodes are glabrous.

 

Leaf :

  • Leaf sheath curve prominently flattened.
  • Leaf blade are linear , narrow , flat or folder without cross venation.

 

Shoot system :

A) Inflorescence :

  • Its inflorescence is called ear head.
  • Spike ear head consists of group of digitally arranged spikes called fingers in a terminal umblet form.
  • Spikelets are strongly compressed laterally curved into z overlapping rows on the other sides of spikes .each spikelet has 4-6 florets.
  • Florets consists of 2 glumes , 1 lemma , 1 pialea, 2 lodicules , 3 stamens and 1 pistil.
  • Grain : caryopsis , globular in shape
