About Lesson
Morphology of root system
- Root contains a fibrous root system and in this system, the primary root is short-lived and is replaced by thin fiber-like roots.
- In well-drained soil, the coleorhiza emerges first in submerged low land conditions, coleptile emerges first than coleorhiza.
- The primary embryonic root or primary root comes out through the coleorhizae which usually dries within a month and is compensated by the development of crown root from lower nodes.
- Coleorhiza is a protective covering of radicle.
- Coleoptile is the protective covering of plumule.
- Crown root and its lateral branches are mainly responsible for the uptake of nutrients and water from the soil.
