About Lesson
Nutrient Management :
- Soil fertility status and proper nutrient management for maximum yield per unit area.
- Low soil fertility is a major limitation of rice production.
- Major minerals nutrients for rice plants are N , P2O5, and K2
- The main problem of fertility degradation is due to N loss. Only 25-50 % N is used by crops.
- INM to maintain soil health.
Manure and fertilizer recommendation :
- Depends upon fertility strains of soil, previous crop growth, planting time, variety used, etc.
- Recommendation is done after lab test.
- For improved variety: 100:30:30
- For local variety: 40:30:30
- Organic manure 6-10 tons per ha. Is generally recommended for improved as well as local variety.
Application time :
- Organic manure is applied and incorporated in the soil 15-30 days before planting.
- All phosphorus, potassium, and half dose of N recommended for rice should be applied and incorporated in the soil before planting or
- The other half dose of N is split into 2 doses.
- ¼ this applied as a top dressing 20-30 days after planting or
- ¼ th is applied 40-50 days after planting or transplanting. The early tillering stages and panicle initiation stage are the best time for applying N fertilizer.
