Learn Cereal Crop Production with rahul
About Lesson

Nutrient Management :

  • Soil fertility status and proper nutrient management for maximum yield per unit area.
  • Low soil fertility is a major limitation of rice production.
  • Major minerals nutrients for rice plants are N , P2O5, and K2
  • The main problem of fertility degradation is due to N loss. Only 25-50 % N is used by crops.
  • INM to maintain soil health.

Manure and fertilizer recommendation :

  • Depends upon fertility strains of soil, previous crop growth, planting time, variety used, etc.
  • Recommendation is done after lab test.
  • For improved variety: 100:30:30
  • For local variety: 40:30:30
  • Organic manure 6-10 tons per ha. Is generally recommended for improved as well as local variety.

Application time :

  • Organic manure is applied and incorporated in the soil 15-30 days before planting.
  • All phosphorus, potassium, and half dose of N recommended for rice should be applied and incorporated in the soil before planting or
  • The other half dose of N is split into 2 doses.
  • ¼ this applied as a top dressing 20-30 days after planting or
  • ¼ th is applied 40-50 days after planting or transplanting. The early tillering stages and panicle initiation stage are the best time for applying N fertilizer.
