Sowing methods :

2. Surface seeding :

• Broadcasting of wheat seed or surface of untilled soil.
• Done before harvest of rice / day or after harvest.
• Practiced under low land condition where the residual moisture of soil is too high or low and not suitable for tillage operation.
• Recommended dose of seed is 120-150 kg/ha.
• Seed is mixed with fresh cow dung @ 1% and spread on shady area to dry . Done to protect seed from direct exposure to sunlight and protect seed from picking by birds.
• Other crop management are similar to CT method.

Nutrient management/ Manure :

• Generally , organic manure like FYM or compost are applied late spring before cultivating rice.
• If possible , farmer can also apply 10 t/ha manure before land preparation in wheat crop too.

Fertilizer dose recommendation in Nepal :

• Generally , fertilizer is recommended on the basis of soil test.
• Under low land condition 100:50:30 kg NPK should be applied.
• Rainfed condition : 50:50:20 kg NPK/ha .
• Under zinc sulphate per hactare during land preparation.
• Under late sowing condition , fertilizer dose is reduced.

Time of application :

• Under rainfed condition , apply full dose of all source of nutrient at the time of final field preparation.
• Under irrigated condition , apply full dose of phosphorous , potassium and half dose of nitrogen at the time of final field preparation.
• Top dressing under sand and silt dominant soil remaining half dose of nitrogen is top dressed around 20-25 DAS (CRI stage ) at the time of first irrigation.
• Top dressing under sand and silt dominant soil remaining half dose of N is top dressed at two splits at CRI and jointing stage along with irrigation.
