Transplanted rice :
Seedlings are raised in nursery beds and transplanted in the main field. The success of this method lies in the quality of the seedlings produced. The quality of the seedling plot used depends on nursery bed management.
Site selection of nursery bed :
- Near to-home stand where daily observation and care can be done.
- Shiny place, free from shade.
- Soil fertile and free from soil-borne disease and pests.
- Irrigation and drainage facility.
Importance of nursery bed :
- To ensure intensive care of seedlings in small areas.
- To facilitate early germination and crop stand establishment.
- To ensure uniform plant population in the main field after transplanting.
- To reduce the amount of seed requirement.
- To facilitate weed management, fertilization, and intercultural operation at transplanted plots.
