Apple stem borer (Apriona cinera, Crembycidae, coleopteran)
Damaging stage: Grub
Damaging symptoms: damage to the xylem part, breaking xylem tissue so that nutrient carrying capacity of the xylem is reduced.
Identification
- Egg: on bark in single or in a group of one or two in the bark of trunk a branches
- Grub: redhead, creamy white
- Pupa: inside the trunk.
- Adult: straw color, yellowish brown, long antennae.
Management
- Prune and burn all attacked shoots and branches during
- loose bark and dry branches from the tree
- insert long wire into the hole on the tree to kill the larva and pupa inside .
- Inject 5 ml of kerosene or petrol with cotton into the hole and close the hole with mud.
- Imidacloprid 8% sl @ 1ml/L of water, thiamethoxam 25% WG @ 1g/L of water for 5 times starting from 2nd week of asar (July) at 15-day intervals.
