Brown plant hopper (Nilaparvata lugens ,Delphacidae,Homoptera )

Damaging stage:- adult and nymph

Damaging symptoms:

  • hopper burn or yellowing, browning ,and drying of plant
  • ovipositional marks exposing the plant to fungal and bacterial infections
  • presence of honeydew and sooty molds in the bases of areas infected
  • plants with ragged stunt or grassy stunt virus.

Identification

  • Egg:- female laying egg inside the sheath by lacerating the plant tissue.
  • Nymph:- Brownish black iaving grayish blue eyes.
  • Adult :-brown color

 

Life cycle

Egg—> 5-8 days—> nymph—> 10-15 days—-> adult

 

Management

  • Laval parasitoid like pseudognatopus
  • Predato : green-mired bug, carabid beetl , lady beetle
  • Light trap, rice and soybean (intercrop) ,transplanting older see .
  • Chloropyrifus 20% Ec @2ml/l
  • Buprofenin 25%Ec @ 1g/l, it’s contact inhibitor
