Cowpea pod borer (lampides boeticus , lycaenidae , lepidioptera )

Damaging stage: larvae

Damaging symptoms :

  • Buds, flowers, and young pods with
  • The presence of slug-like.

Identification

  • Egg: light blue color si angle
  • Larva: light pink color  flattened body
  • Pupa: Inside the pod
  • Adult: blue wings, 2 spots in each hind wing at the end tail-like hind.

 

Management

  • Collection and destroy
  • Light tra
  • ETL 10% affected parts
  • Deep summer ploughing in 2-3 years to eliminate quiescent
  • Early sowing, short duration
  • Avoid closer plant
  • Bt @ 600 g, neem oil/ pungum oil 80 EC @ 2ml/lit
  • Spray NSKE 5% twice followed by triazophos05%.
  • Conserve green lacewing, predatory stink bugs, spiders, ants
  • Application of NPV 250 LE /ha with tempol 0.1% and Jaggery 0.5% thrice at 10 – 15 days intervals commencing from the flowering stage. (Note: Insecticide / Ha NPV spray should be applied when the larvae are in early stage
