Legumes pod bug (Anoplocnemis curvipes ,Coreidae, Hemiptera )
Damaging stage: Nymph and Adult
Damaging symptoms :
- Necrosis, pod malformation, empty pod
- Premature drying , shriveling of seed, loss of germination.
Identification
Egg: brown color, laying singly or clustered on the upper surface of the leaf. Nymph: mimic ant, hiding from ant.
Adult dark-colored trout bodies, leaf-footed bugs.
Management
- Collect and destroy
- Resistance varieties, early planting
- Intercropping with sorghum or green gram is reported to reduce pop
- Intercropping with maize which is commonly practiced is small farmers is said to cause increasing in pod-sucking bugs and therefore is not recommended.
- Predator:assassin bug, pprayingmantids, spider
- Apply phosphorus (30kg/ha)which reduces the pod sucking
- Pyrethrin-basedd insecticide.
