Red ant ( Doryllus rentals, Dorylidae, Hymenoptera)

  • Social insect ( female, male, worker)
  • Polyphagus pest.

Damaging stage: worker

Damaging symptoms :

  • Feed underground parts of the plant like root, tuber, and underground
  • Wilt and turn yellow and dies.

 

Identification

  • Male: dark brown  two pairs of membranous
  • Worker: mainly damaged to host plant, eye absent, sserialfemale.
  • Female: larger body, eyes, 2 pairs of wings. Laying egg in soil below 3-5 cm in ground level. Hatch in 1wks and 2 wks in pupa.

 

Management

  • Solution of azadiractin @100ml/l in the oil near the plant stem.
  • Drench water diluted cow urine (1:5 urine: water)+ tobacco dust (5g in every 1 liter of diluted cow urine)in the soil @100ml/plant at tuber initiation.
  • Application of chloropyrifos in soil, dursban10%G @ 1kg/ropani before
