Rice gundi bug/rice ear head bug (leukocoria oratorios, Coreida, Hemiptera)
- Piercing and suckin, they are more active in the morning and nighttime.
Damaging stage – Nymph and adult
Damaging symptoms: Black spots on the grains at the site of feeding puncture. In the case of heavy infestation, the whole ear head may become devoid of mature grains. Buggy odor in rice fields during the milky stage.
Identification
- Egg:– laid in leaves in straight rows dark brown red in color
- Nymph:- slender, wingless ,a nd brown-green color
Adult:- slender, green/brown long and intense
Life cycle:-
Egg—-> 5-8—> nymph—-> 10-15 —-> adult
Management
- Light trap, hanging dirty trap(cattle urine soaked gunny bag or cow dung wrapped cloth)
