Rice hispa (Dicladispa armigera, Chysomelidae Coleopteran)

  • Oligophagous pest, Poaceae, serious pest for young rice

Damaging stage: grub, adult

Damaging symptoms:

  • Parallel white streak between veins.
  • Severe infestation leaves become white and later die.

Identification

  • Adult: Long spine on prothorax and elytra,10 spine along lateral margin, and 9 dorsal spin, Female scrapes the tender portion of leaf epidermis and deposit
  • Grub: Legless, creamy white, inside the leaf tissue
  • Egg: Tip portion of leaves, inside the leaves.

 

Life cycle

On hatching young grub feed as leaf miners between the upper and lower epidermis, and full-grown larvae scrape the leaf. Pupa inside the leaf.

Egg   ………> 4-5days….> Grub…….> 7- 12 days……> Pupa..> 4-5 days…..> Adult

 

Management

  • Parasitized :- bacon larvae
  • Predator :- assasian bug
  • Clip tip parts of the leaf
  • Collect and destroy
  • Malathion dust @25-30 kg/ha, 50% Ec @2ml/ha
