  • Farm planning is the process of making program of the total farm activity of a farm drawn up in advance.
  • It includes making decisions regarding organization and operation of a farm business so that it results in a continuous maximization of net returns of a farm business.
  • The ultimate aim of farm planning is improvement in the standard of living of the farmer and immediate goal is to maximize the net income of the farm through improved resource use planning.

Objectives of farm planning

  1. Giving ideas on the alternative methods and practices
  2. Shows the resource situation of the farm
  3. Help to make rational decision within the framework of new ideas and opportunities and resource position
  4. Gives the idea of supply needs of the farm like seed, plant protection material, fertilizer etc.
  5. Credit requirement in case of new plan can be known.
  6. Expected income can be known

 

Advantages of Farm planning

  1. Income improvement: Income can be maximized by adjusting the desirable changes in the farm like using of new technology.
  2. Educational process: It is an educational tool to bring a change in the outlook of the cultivation and the extension workers.

3.Desirable organizational changes: It treat farm as an operational unit and tailoring the recommendations to fit into the individual farmer’s opportunities, limitations, problems and resource position.

  2. Should have balanced combination of enterprises, i.e.
