Concept of Cropping System :

Farming System: An arrangement of farm enterprises and their management in response to biophysical and socioeconomic factors to fulfill family goals.

 

Cropping System: The cropping pattern used on a farm and their interaction with farm resources, other enterprises, and the environment.

 

Cropping pattern: The yearly sequence and spatial arrangement of crops and fallow in a given area. The cropping pattern indicates the proportion of area under different crops at a point in time.

 

Types of cropping system:

A) Mono cropping /single cropping

  1. Sole cropping e.g., commercial farming
  2. Monoculture e.g., lowland rice

 

 

B) Multiple cropping

  1. Sequential cropping
  2. Intercropping
  3. Mixed cropping
  4. Relay cropping
  5. Multi-storey cropping
