• In USA extension work is purely educational in nature, the scope of word “Extension” may be extension is an educational agency or an educational means and education job.
• In Korea extension is a rural guidance, in India it is purely transfer of technology.
• In Malaysia it is just showing the torch and in UK is advisory work

Why extension?

• The rural people should know and adopt useful research finding from time to time and also transmit their problems to the research worker for solution.
• It is impracticable for the millions of farmers to visit research station and learn things by themselves.
• Thus, an agency is required to bridge the gap between the research worker and the people at large, to play the dual role of interpreting the result of the research to the farms as well as of conveying the farmers’ problems to the research station for study and solution.
• This agency is called extension. And the person operating this agency or organization are called extension worker.
