The force of change in agricultural extension will come from four main directions

  1. Economic and policy climate: The government extension service will continue to be under pressure to become more efficient to reduce their expenditure and staff and to pass on the cost of provision to their clients
  2. Social context in rural areas: Social and economic trends within the rural areas will necessitate more highly trained, specialized and technically competent workers to replace monolithic government extension agencies
  3. System knowledge: Recognition of locale-specific nature of farming system and the agricultural information system which support them in important source of pressure toward debureucratization and devolution of extension services
  4. Information technology: The continuing rapid development of telecommunication and computer based information technology is probably the he biggest factor of change in support of extension.
