Biosynthesis of Starch

  • It occurs in chloroplast.
  • The activated nucleotide sugar is formed by the condensation of glucose-1-phosphate with ATP, CTP, and GTP.
  • Starch synthetase then transfers glucose residue to the non-reducing end of the existing starch molecules. The reaction involves displacement of ADP forming characteristics linkage of starch.
