About Lesson
Lipoproteins (Lipids + Proteins)
- Globular micelle-like particles.
- Consists of the non-polar core of tri glycerols and cholesteryl esters,
- The protein part of lipoprotein is called apolipoprotein and acts as cellular targeting signals.
Classes of lipoprotein
a) Chylomicrons:
- Transport dietary glyceride and cholesterol from the intestine to the tissue.
b) VLDL:
- Transport glyceride from the liver to tissue.
c) LDL:
- Delivers cholesterol to the cells.
d) IDL:
- Pick up cholesterol from HDL to become LDL.
e) HDL:
- Delivers cholesterol to the liver.
Note:
- Intestinal mucosal cells convert dietary FA to triacylglycerol and package them.
- Particles are released to intestinal lymph.
- Transported through lymphatic vessels.
- Blood stream then delivers chylomicrons throughout the body.
