About Lesson
Organisms contain a variety of hexose derivatives.
- Here, the hydroxyl group in the parent compound is replaced with another substitute.
i.e.
a) Carbon atom — oxidizedà Carboxylic acid.
b) Glucose — oxidized à Glucosamine
c) Galactose –oxidized à Galactosamine
d) Mannose -oxidized à Mannosamine
But, how?
- Hydroxyl at C-2 is replaced with an amino group.
Note: Glucosamine is the structural polymer of the wall of bacteria.
