About Lesson
Principle of electrophoresis
- Electrophoresis is the movement of charged particles in an electric field.
- Protein carries both +ve and -ve charges depending on the medium i.e. acidic or basic.
- At an iso-electric point, when the protein bears both +ve and -ve charges, it behaves as neutral.
- pH> Isoelectric point, protein carries charge and moves towards the anode.
- The molecular mass of a protein is determined by its mobility.
