Land Preparation

  • 1-2 ploughing (15-20cm) with MB plough followed by 2-3 harrowing is better.
  • Beds must be free from stubbles and weed completely.
  • Optimum moisture in the field at the time of sowing is required to ensure good germination and vigorous seedling growth.

 

Seed selection and treatment

  • Select true to type, bold, free from inert matter, optimum viable, vigorous and moisture containing seed.
  • Treat with Thiram 75%WP @ 2.5g (for blackgram) and 0.75g (for greengram) per kg seed.
  • Inoculate with Bradyrhizobium sp.

 

Sowing time

  • Rainy season: last fortnite of June to last week of July
  • Summer mung: mid March to mid April.

c) Line sowing

 

 

Spacing

a) Rainy season: 30-45 x 5-10 cm

b) Summer season: 20-30 x 5-10 cm

  • Hill sowing: hills are made at 50 x50cm distance and 6-7 seeds sown at each hill and covered.

 

Depth of sowing

  • 3-5cm

 

Seed rate

  • Optimum plant stand desired: 30 plants/m2
  • Depending upon the seed size: 15-20 kg/ha for green gram and 15-25kg/ha for black gram
