About Lesson
Soil
- Ideal soil: light colored, well drained, friable, sandy loam, well supplied with Ca and a moderate amount of OM.
- Prefers a slightly acid soils, pH of 6.0-6.5 (pH between 5.5-7.0 is acceptable but pH 5.0 severely limits growth).
- Saline soils are unsuitable for groundnut cultivation.
- Sandy and loam soils are most suitable as they are easily penetrated by roots and pegs and allow easier percolation of rainfall.
- Heavy soils affect growth and yield performance of groundnut.
