About Lesson

Weeding:

  • 2 hand weeding; 1st at 30 DAS and 2nd at 60 DAS.
  • Major weeds: Chenopodium album, Fumaria parviflora, Lathyrus sp, Melilotus alba, Vicia sp (detoriorte the seed quality as well), Cercium arvense, Anagalis arvensis, Orobance crenata.
  • Pre-emergence herbicide; Prometryne @ 0.5 kg a.i./ha and Metaxuron @ 1.2 kg a.i/ha
  • Alachlor (Lasso) or Nitrofen (Tok-E-50) @ 1 and 1.5 kg a.i./ha respectively Within 2 days of sowing

Irrigation:

  • 1-2 irrigation i.e. 40 DAS for vegetative growth and at flower initiation stage.
  • Have good drainage as lentils can’t survive water logged condition.
  • Excess soil moisture reduces oxygen in the rhizosphere and thus affects BNF activity and nutrient availability resulting in yield reduction.

Harvesting

  • Manually by uprooting and even cutting with sickle.
  • Stored at 8-10 % moisture.

Yield

  • 600-1200 kg/ha.
  • 2-3 t/ha in improved practices.
