Introduction
The loss of water from aerial parts of the plant body is called transpiration. It is of four types:-
- Cuticular transpiration:
The loss of water from cuticle or epidermal cells of leaves is cuticular transpiration. By cuticular transpiration, about 3-10 % of total water is lost.
- Lenticular transpiration:
The loss of water through lenticels found in the epidermal layer of woody branches of the trees is called lenticular transpiration. About 0.5% of total transpiration takes place by this method.
- Bark transpiration:
It occurs through the cork covering the team. About 0.3% of water is lost by this method.
- Stomatal transpiration:
This transpiration takes place by stomata which is found on leaves and also in young stems, leaves, and flowers. About 95% of transpiration takes place by this method.
