Socio- economic importance of livestock:

  • Yak and nak provides milk and meat which act as a source of nutrition for mountain people.
  • Castrated yak are used as a pack animals.
  • Skin are used for making bad and sacks.
  • Fibers are used for making rope and radi which protect mountain people from chilling cold and act as a source of income by selling them in city.
  • Yak steak (dried yak meat) is quite popular among the tourists which are becoming popular and source of income for poor farmers to uplift the socio-economic status of that region.
  • Yak cheese production is a real source of income of people of mountain.
  • Milk production capability is more than nak which is major additive advantage of rearing chauries.
  • Major products are cheese, churpi, ghee, skin. Tail switch.
  • Ghee exported to Tibet and chhurpi to india.
  • Male chauries and old unproductive are exported to Tibet for meat purpose.
