Classification of bioagent

The bioagents can be classified as;

  1. Obligate bioagents:
  • Associated with a specific insect or disease host and are difficult to culture artificially.
  • Eg; Bacillus popilliae causes the milky disease of white grubs.
  1. SSpore-formingbioagents:
  • The protein crystals formed by these sporulating inoculants are toxic to target pests.
  • Eg; Bacillus cereus produces such toxins.
  1. Determinative bioagents:
  • They get activated inside the host and multiply in the hemocoel of insects producing lethal septicemia.
  1. Facultative bioagents:
  • The host tissue is damaged by the invasion of the bioagents but they are not obligate parasites.
