About Lesson
Classification of bioagent
The bioagents can be classified as;
- Obligate bioagents:
- Associated with a specific insect or disease host and are difficult to culture artificially.
- Eg; Bacillus popilliae causes the milky disease of white grubs.
- SSpore-formingbioagents:
- The protein crystals formed by these sporulating inoculants are toxic to target pests.
- Eg; Bacillus cereus produces such toxins.
- Determinative bioagents:
- They get activated inside the host and multiply in the hemocoel of insects producing lethal septicemia.
- Facultative bioagents:
- The host tissue is damaged by the invasion of the bioagents but they are not obligate parasites.
