About Lesson
Bacteria:
- Bacillus thuringiensis attacks on the Lepidopteran larva.
- It enters through the mouth and anus in insects and it produces endotoxin and it breaks the intestinal lumen.
- It is used to control Gram pod borer, cabbage butterfly, cabbage moth, Indian meal moth, cabbage looper, confused flour beetle, and Rhinoceros beetles.
Types of entomopathogenic bacteria
- Some are obligate but the majority are facultative and a few are potential pathogens.
- Some are very virulent bacterial species ( thuriengiensis).
- Most of the insect pathogenic bacteria occur in the families Bacilliaceae, Pesudomonadaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, and Streptococcaceae.
- Members of Bacillaceae, particularly thuriengiensis and B. papillae, have received considerable attention as microbial control agents.
