Based on the host range
i. Monophagous pest: Pests are confined to a single species of plants. E.g. mulberry silkworm, yellow stem borer.
ii. Oligophagous pest: Pests feed the plants, which are botanically related usually the same plant families. E.g., Diamondback moth cis confined to only cruciferous crops.
iii. Polyphagous insects: This pest feeds on many plants from a diverse range of plant families. In tropical countries, gram pod borer is a serious polyphagous insect.
