History of IPM

  • 1939: Insecticide properties of DDT were identified by Paul Muller
  • 1948: Novel prize provided to Muller
  • 1962: “Silent Spring” by Rachel Suits. She describes in her book the negative impact of chemical pesticides on organisms and the environment.
  • 1960’s: The first time used term IPM
  • 1972-80: FAO developed the IPM program as the National IPM program in Indonesia
