Types of Parasitoids
a. Egg Parasitoids:
Females of adult parasitoids lay eggs into the eggs of the host in which parasitoid larvae after hatching feed on the egg content of the host and emerge themselves. E.g.Trichogramma achaeae, T. chilonis.
b. Larval Parasitoids
Females of adult parasitoids lay eggs into the larvae of the host from which parasitoids develop by feeding and killing the larvae of the host. E. g. Ichneumonid wasps, Apanteles glomeratus, Macrocentrus etc.
c. Pupal Parasitoids
Females of adult parasitoids lay eggs into the pupa of the host from which parasitoids develop by feeding and killing the larvae of the host. E.g. Tricholyga sorbillans, T. bomycis, Xanthopimpla predator.
d. Adult Parasitoids
Adult females of parasitoids lay eggs into the adult of the host, but it is very rare in nature. E.g. Mud wasps.
