Role of water

  1. Water is essential part of cell protoplasm and important ingredient in photosynthesis.
  2. Water acts as a carrier of nutrient ions from the soil to the plant system and photosynthate from leaves to different parts of the plant.
  3. Water is used for land preparation for raising crops and leach or washout injurious salts from the soil.
  4. It is used to regulate the soil temperature, humidity and maintain microclimate of the crop.
  5. Water plays an important role for maintaining the population and activity of soil microorganisms.
  6. Water is used to remove stress condition of the crop and also used to release nutrients in the soil solution for absorption by plants.
