Bacterial disease
Tail rot or fin rot:
- The causative agent is Flexibacter columnaris
- The most contagious bacterial disease of carp and results in the putrefaction of the ail or other fins.
Symptoms:
- A more or less distinct white line is seen at the margin of the fin in the early stages of the disease.
- The line moves towards the base of the fin and the fin becomes torn, and after some time the entire fin is destroyed.
- In a severe stage, the infection may spread on the body and invade the connective tissue too.
Control measures
- Oxytetracycline or Terramycin orally @ 7.5 g (active) per 100 kg feed per day for 2 weeks.
- Dip treatment for one minute in 500 ppm CuSO4
