Disease caused by worms

Dactylogyrosis:

  • Causative agent is dactylogyrus vastator
  • Found only on the gills of fish and is known as gill fluke.

 

Disease symptom:

  • Fading gill colors ( turns yellow)
  • Gill necrosis
  • Loss of gill functions and partial suffocation
  • Excessive mucus secretion on the gills and skin
  • Fish become lethargic, swim near the surface, seek the sides of the pond, and refuse food.

 

Control:

  • Pond treatment with Diptera @ 0.2 ppm
  • Drain the pond and disinfect by qquicklime
  • Dip treatment with malachite green 1:15000 for one minute
  • Bath the diseased fish in 2.5% common salt solution for 1 hour.
  • Use 0.7% common salt for indefinite treatment
  • Dip diseased fish in 5% acetic acid for 1 minute.
