Role of phytoplankton

  • Major food for phytoplankton.
  • The base of the food web in the fish pond.
  • Make water turbid and prevent the growth of undesirable aquatic weeds through shading.
  • A major source of dissolved oxygen in water.

Role of zooplankton

  • Major food for zooplankton feeder fish.
  • The major food item for larvae or juveniles of most fish species.
