About Lesson
Development
- Development is the most valued, perhaps also the most imprecise concept, and could be defined having an infinite number of meanings. It only acquires a more useful meaning when it makes a reference for theories, context, problems and policies concerning the developing countries (Mikkelsen, 2005).
- Development is an idea, an activity-all interrelated. Its character and results are determined by relation of power not by the populist label such as participation, empowerment, civil society (Kothari and Minogue 2002).
- Generally speaking, development could be conceptualized as a set of vectors of desirable societal objectives or development index does not decrease over time.
- Some of the objectives that are usually included in the set are as follows ( Shing, 2009).
- Increase in real income per capita
- Improvement in distribution of income
- Economic and political freedom
- Equitable access to resource, education, health care, employment opportunities and justice
